I’ve spent the past three years out of college teaching kids math and science. Recently, one of my friends reached out to me with an opportunity to teach STEM to an impoverished community. And through a lot of prayer and clarity from God- I said yes to the call.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."
In middle school I concluded that I wanted nothing to do with God or religion. I did a pretty good job at avoiding faith up until college.
In college I got a reputation in my dorm as the girl who is really good at chemistry- so because of this I would tutor people. I ended up tutoring one of the RA’s in the building and we became good friends. Eventually she ended up sharing the gospel with me. Long story short, I realized the path I was on was leading me in the wrong direction. So in response I started to read the Bible to figure this faith thing out.
Eventually that friend got me to a Bible study. When we broke out in small groups to talk about the lesson, the girl leading my group shared the Gospel with me. I swallowed the harsh reality that even though I had almost finished reading the entire New Testament, I was still on the wrong path. She then broke down what it means to repent and believe in Jesus. So that night I made the decision to repent and believe and get baptized that weekend.
From then on I started reading the Bible, and applying it. I got discipled through my church, and my life did a 180. As I grew in my faith I concluded that I want to tell as many people about Jesus as I possibly can.
I graduated in May of 2020 during peak COVID with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Industry slowed down and I began praying a lot about finding a job when I graduate.
Eventually I got a call from an engineering company with an offer in nuclear engineering, and a call from a private Christian school with an offer to teach math and science.
Somewhere in my mind I had always wanted to try to teach. So this decision was complicated.
After a lot of prayer and a call with a friend, I got off the phone, looked up at the poster in my room that contained a map of the world- and I concluded that all I want to do is preach the Gospel to as many people as I possibly can.
I turned down the engineering job. I called up the school and began my career in teaching.
After 3 years of teaching in South Carolina, my friend reached out to me with an opportunity to teach in the Dominican Republic.
I started praying a lot about whether or not this was the path to take, and God opened the door every single time.
God made it so clear to me that I accepted a job with a school called Doulos Discovery School.
The mission of this school is to give kids opportunities they ordinarily wouldn’t have. This school uses Christian discipleship and a rigorous education, in order to empower kids to break the cycle of poverty, and become the next Christian leaders of the world.
With this mission, not only can kids find their calling, but they now have the ability to tangibly pursue it when they graduate.
Doulos is a support based Christian school. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry with me by helping fund my mission, praying with me, or learning more about what I am doing, please take a look at the links in the contact me section below.
