  • I adopted two kittens

  • The 10th grade won a high school volleyball tournament (it really united them)

  • I got bullied by some cows

  • Physics has studied fluid mechanics, waves, electricity, electric fields, conservation, energy and momentum

  • Biology has studied, genetics, DNA, cells, organelles, photosynthesis, cell division, transportation, and cellular respiration

  • I found a frog!!!!

  • We explored new waterfalls and beaches

  • I successfully propagated a mint plant and have an herb gardern

  • I have been able to continue in mentoring my students through the highs and lows of life

  • Through meiosis I got the chance to teach the scientific evidence toward this verse:

Psalm 139:13–14 (NASB 2020) "13 For You created my innermost parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to You, because I am awesomely and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well."

Be the Change

The expeditionary learning theme for this semester is “be the change.” With this, we spent time talking about transformation from a genetics perspective (biology), a biblical sanctification perspective (bible), a geometric translation perspective (math) and a “coming of age” perspective (English). Then, from their background knowledge of change we then focused on becoming “agents of change”

To do this, we had a panel of guest speakers from various ministries come speak with our students on their impact in the Dominican Republic. One of the organizations that sparked a lot of interest within the kids is Love Restored.

Love Restored is a ministry here, led by my friends Rachael and Nate. A focus of the ministry is to help women out of human trafficking through “prevention, relief, rescue, and restoration.”

One of the practical ways they do this is through working with children and families in Jarabacoa. In some cases, what happens is people are stuck in such poverty that they will sell their kids into trafficking to make enough money.

Love Restored’s goal is to bring the Gospel into these environments and through education break this cycle of behavior. The idea is to start this change within the children and families in Jarabacoa, in order to change the usual course of going to the coast and selling themselves.

Thank you for your patience!

This semester has been such a busy one. I have been working so hard because ultimately I want to give my kids the best education that I can possibly give them (claro que sí). With that though, it makes writing about my job less “exciting” (unless you are REALLY into punnet squares/ science curriculum).

So, I want to say thank you for your patience with my news letters. Things are happening down here!! The science department is being innovated and growing, kids are preparing for college/ life after doulos, kids are being discipled, and I am having so much fun being able to do this, and do this well- even if I can’t share all of the details.

Again, thank you for your support- I can’t serve here without ya!
